About Reserved Characters and Strings

The following guidelines regarding reserved characters and strings must be followed:

>!, #, and $ are reserved characters and cannot be used in any of the following:

Feature name

Feature version

Secret text

Public vendor information

Private vendor information

License vendor information

License sharing criteria (for example, hostname/username)

>Space is a reserved character and cannot be used in any of the following:

Feature name

Feature version

Public vendor information

Private vendor information

License vendor information

>'011' must not be specified as a feature name and 'oil' must not be specified as a feature version.

>NiL and Ni are reserved strings and cannot be used in any of the following:

Feature name

Feature version

Public vendor information

Private vendor information

License vendor information

># is a comment character and all text appearing after this will be ignored in the vendor information (public, private, and license vendor information).

>###, $$$ and !!! character strings are reserved for internal processing. If a login user name or host name of a client machine contains any of these reserved character strings, the license request is denied.

>Comma (",") is a reserved character for secret text and must be avoided (Sentinel RMS v10 onwards) for license generation purposes.
